PRODUCT INFORMATION 

 

Introduction 

The MN008006EN manual provides installation, operation, and service 

instructions for the NOVA LBS Load Break Switch. Before installing and 

operating this switch, carefully read and understand the contents of 

this manual. 

Read This Manual First 

Read and understand the contents of this manual and follow all locally 

approved procedures and safety practices before installing or 

operating this equipment. The NOVA LBS switch is used with the LBC 

(Load Break Control) control.

These instructions cannot cover all details or variations in the 

equipment, procedures, or process described nor provide directions 

for meeting every possible contingency during installation, operation, 

or maintenance. For additional information, contact your Eaton 

representative. 

Acceptance and Initial Inspection 

Each NOVA LBS is completely assembled, tested, and inspected at the 

factory. It is in good condition when accepted by the carrier for 

shipment. Upon receipt, inspect the shipping container for signs of 

damage. Unpack the switch and inspect it thoroughly for damage 

incurred during shipment. If damage is discovered, file a claim with the 

carrier immediately. 

Handling and Storage 

Be careful during handling and storage of the switch to minimize the 

possibility of damage. Refer to the Moving the Switch and Lifting the 

Switch sections. If the switch is to be stored for any length of time prior 

to installation, provide a clean, dry storage area. 
Eaton recommends transporting NOVA LBS switches in the closed 

position to maximize the operational performance of the unit. 

Standards 

The NOVA LBS Load Break Switches are designed and tested in 

accordance with: 

IEC 62271-1

Description of Operation 

The NOVA LBS Load Break Switch is a three phase vacuum switch 

designed for distribution electrical systems

 

is a three-phase, vacuum 

interrupting switch designed for electrical distribution systems through 

15/27 kV.  

 
 
The NOVA LBS is designed and tested to be compatible with the LBC control 

Eaton type. The NOVA LBS has an alimentation interface by the control. 
The solid polymer insulation system does not rely on a gaseous, liquid, or foam 

dielectric. The NOVA LBS is highly resistant to ozone, oxygen, moisture, 

contamination, and ultraviolet light. The NOVA LBS has three solid-polymer 

interrupter modules, a current transformer encapsulated by interrupt module 

and a standard aluminum (or stainless steel if requested) enclosure for the 

mechanism with protection rating IP54 or IP67. It is suitable for operation in the 

temperature range of -40°C to +60°C 
to +55°C.
