SECTION 6: INSPECTION AND
MAINTENANCE
6-1 INTRODUCTION
WARNING
•
DO NOT WORK ON A BREAKER IN THE
“
CONNECTED”
POSITION.
•
DO NOT WORK ON A BREAKER WITH SECONDARY
DISCONNECTS ENGAGED.
•
DO NOT WORK ON A BREAKER WITH SPRINGS
CHARGED OR CONTACTS CLOSED.
•
DO NOT DEFEAT ANY SAFETY INTERLOCKS.
•
DO NOT LEAVE MAINTENANCE TOOL IN THE SOCKET
AFTER CHARGING THE CLOSING SPRINGS
• DO NOT STAND LESS THAN ONE METER AWAY
FROM THE BREAKER WHEN TESTING FOR
VACUUM INTEGRITY.
• FAILURE TO FOLLOW ANY OF THESE
INSTRUCTIONS MAY CAUSE DEATH, SERIOUS
BODILY INJURY, OR PROPERTY DAMAGE. SEE
SECTION 2-SAFE PRACTICES FOR MORE
INFORMATION.
6-2 FREQUENCY OF INSPECTION
Inspect the breaker every 12 to 18 months when operating in a
clean, non corrosive environment. For a dusty and corrosive
environment, inspection should be per-formed twice a
year. Additionally, it is recommended to inspect the breaker
every time it interrupts fault current.
