2: Installation
12
Note: When using the UFC in the ‘diagonal’ mode, or in ‘reflex’ mode on pipes over 13.75 inches diameter, two
guide rails are required with a transducer mounted in each one – see Paragraph 2.3.5 for diagonal mode details.
2.3.3 Attaching the guide rail to the pipe
1. Position the guide rail horizontally on the pipe
at 45° with respect to the top of the pipe and
secure it in position using the supplied
stainless steel banding, as shown in Figure
2.5.
Note: In the following procedure the guide rail is
installed with the rectangular opening facing
towards the upstream end of the pipe.
2.3.4 Fitting the transducers
1. Tighten each transducer clamp
clockwise until it is close to the top
of the transducer Figure 2.6. This
is necessary in order to prevent
the acoustic couplant touching the
pipe when the transducer is
initially inserted into the guide rail
– as described below.
2. Using the suppled syringe
applicator, apply a 0.1 inch bead
of acoustic couplant to the base of
both transducers (Figure 2.7).
3. Thread the downstream transducer cable (blue)
through the right-hand end of the guide rail and up
through the rectangular opening at the top left-
hand end of the guide rail, as shown in Figure 2.8.
4. Connect the downstream cable (blue) to one of
the transducers.
