Seek Medical aid for suspected carbon monoxide poisoning
The running engine gives off carbon monoxide, a poisonous gas that can kill you. If
you start to feel sick, dizzy, or weak while using the generator, shut off the engine and
get to fresh air RIGHT AWAY. See a doctor. You may have carbon monoxide
poisoning.
Pre-operational Checks
For your safety, and to maximize the service life of your equipment, it is very important
to take a few moments before you operate the generator to check its condition. Be
sure to take care of any problem you find, or have your servicing dealer correct it,
before you operate the generator. Make sure that any regular maintenance has been
performed as described in “Maintenance and Repair” section.
WARNING:
Improperly maintaining this portable generator, or failure to correct a problem before operation, could
cause a malfunction in which you could be seriously injured.
Always perform a pre-operation inspection before each operation, and correct any problem.
To prevent a possible fire, keep the portable generator at least 7 feet (2 meters) away
from building walls and other equipment during operation. Do not place flammable
objects close to the engine.
Before beginning your pre-operation checks, be sure the generator is on a level
surface and the ignition switch is in the OFF position.
1. Check the General Condition of the Generator
•
Look around and underneath the generator for signs of oil or gasoline leaks.
•
Remove any excessive dirt or debris, especially around the engine, muffler, and
recoil starter.
•
Look for signs of damage.
•
Check that all nuts, bolts, screws, hose connectors, and clamps are tightened.
•
Refer to the engine Owner’s Manual for engine maintenance instructions.
•
Check oil level in the engine. See engine owner’s manuals.
•
Ensure the area around the generator is free from rags, tools, debris, and
flammable or explosive materials.
•
Ensure any belt guards and covers are securely in place.
•
Ensure the alternator ventilation holes are not blocked.
WARNING:
Entanglement Hazard
Do NOT operate with protective covers or guards removed. Doing so
could expose high speed moving components which could allow for the
operator or bystander to become entangled. Entanglement in this
equipment may result in serious injury, amputation, or death.
