5.4 Setting of the knife position in the direction
of sewing
The forcing off screw (4) for setting the position of the
trimming device body is to be so screwed in , so that the knife
touches the rear edge of the gauge (2) supplied together with
the machine.
Caution! Danger of injury!
Switch off the main switch. Before starting the
setting operation wait until the motor stops!
- Remove the throat plate insert, see par. 3.3.2.
- Put back the throat plate (1).
- Slide in the gauge (2) into the hole for the throat plate insert
and push it up to its rear edge.
- Engage with care the trimming device.
- Using the screws (3,4), set the knife in such a way, so that it
slightly touches the gauge with its rear edge.
- Disengage the trimming device.
- Tighten up the screws (3).
- Engage with care the trimming device and check its setting.
- Attach the throat plate insert, see par. 3.3.2.
- Check the knife setting, see Instruction manual, par. 6.15.
The cutting knife must not strike, in its bottom
dead centre, with its cutting edge in the throat
plate insert. In its top dead centre, the trimming
knife must not leave the throat plate insert.
5.5 Setting of the knife side position (against
the cutting edge of the throat plate insert)
For a precise setting, a magnifying glass is to be
used.
For correct function of the trimming device, for a long service
life of the knife and of the insert, it is necessary that the knife
and the cutting edge of the insert are parallel and that there is
no clearance between them and that the knife is not excessively
pushed against the throat plate insert.
5.5.1 Setting of the lateral knife position to the sides
Caution! Danger of injury!
Switch off the main switch! Before starting the
setting operation, wait until the motor stops!
- When engaging the trimming device, check the parallelism
of the knife and of the cutting edge of the throat plate
insert. When needed, carry out the necessary setting
according to the par. 5.5.2.
- Loosen the screw (1) and, thereafter, tighten it slightly.
- Engage the trimming device.
- Set the knife using the screw (2)with regard to the throat
plate insert in such a way, so that they touch slightly one
another. (In loosening the screw (2), the knife approaches
the throat plate insert and in tightening it, the knife moves
away from the throat plate insert).
- Tighten up the screw (1).
- Tighten up the screw (2) by about 1/4 revolution in such a
way, so that the thread clearance is taken up.
- Disengage and engage with care the trimming device.
- When the knife approaches slightly the edge of the throat
plate insert, go ahead further, when this runs with difficulty,
or when the knife bends, repeat anew the previous proce-
dure.
- Disengage the trimming device.
- Switch on the machine.
- Engage with care the trimming device.
