Stopping the motorcycle
Reduce speed, change down and release the throttle twistgrip.
Change down to engage first gear and then neutral. Apply
the brakes and bring the motorcycle to a complete stop.
Switch the engine off by turning the key to
OFF
(page 50).
Parking
Stop and park the motorcycle on the sidestand (see page 61).
To prevent theft, turn the handlebar fully left and turn the
ignition key to the
LOCK
position.
If you park in a garage or other indoor area, make sure that
there is proper ventilation and that the motorcycle is not
near a source of heat.
If necessary, you can leave the sidelights on by turning the
key to position
P
.
Important
Do not leave the key at
P
for long periods or the
battery will run down. Never leave the motorcycle
unattended with the ignition key inserted.
Warning
The exhaust system may still be hot even after
engine is switched off; so take special care not to touch it
with any part of the body and do not park the motorcycle
next to inflammable material (wood, leaves, etc.).
Warning
Using padlocks or other locks designed to prevent
movement of the motorcycle (such as brake disc locks, rear
sprocket locks, and so on) is very dangerous, and may impair
motorcycle operation and the safety of rider and passenger.
