Adding Nose Weight to Achieve Balance
Figure 22.
Taping Belly Skid in Place
Apply tape to entire perimeter of skid to ensure maximum nose strength!
45)
To achieve correct balance, it will
be necessary to add weight
alongside battery in provided
recesses. Small coins or pieces of
lead work well. See Figure 21.
Correct balance is achieved when
glider balances in a level position
on pen tips. If required, you may
install additional weight beneath
battery or in receiver
compartment; however, you will
need to remove some foam to
make space.
46)
Once this is accomplished, remove
belly skid and secure battery,
receiver, and any nose-weight
with tape stretched across
compartments. Tape should not
extend past perimeter of belly skid
recess. Firmly press belly skid onto
fuselage and apply plastic tape (K)
in pieces along
entire perimeter
of
belly skid for a secure hold. It
usually takes five separate strips as
shown in Figure 22.
47)
Please note that you may need to
remove belly skid after initial test
flights to make minor adjustments to
balance weight. Flying wings such as
the Alula require a bit more fine-
tuning to get just the right
combination of balance weight and
control surface trim. See “Fine-Tuning
Your Alula for Optimum Flight
Performance” on page 23 for more
information.

►
Apply tape to entire perimeter of skid to ensure maximum fuselage strength!
Failure to do so may result in fuselage breakage during hard launches/landings.
TIP: Apply fiber-reinforced strapping tape under belly skid for added strength.
