Locating Balance Points
42)
Balancing the Alula:
Ensure battery and
receiver are installed in their final locations.
Temporarily attach belly skid (E) using masking
tape. Slide fin into place and secure with a bit
of tape. Make sure servo wires lay flush within
their recesses. Then, apply a 50 mm (2 in)
diameter circular decal of your choice (M) to top
side of fuselage, covering servo wires.
43)
On underside of wings, you will notice two small
cone-shaped depressions located slightly ahead
of servos on each side of fuselage. These
depressions represent the best CG (Center of
Gravity) location. See Figure 19 to the right.
44)
As shown in Figure 20 below, hold two ballpoint
pens in a “V” configuration and balance glider
on tips of pens. Pen tips should be inserted into
locator depressions to verify proper balance.
Glider should rotate freely on pen tips. Make
sure not to push tips of pens into foam, thus
breaking the surface.

Special note on balance location:
Since the first release of
Alula-evos prior to September
2009, we have moved the CG
(Center of Gravity) locator
depressions rearward to the ideal
location for best flight and launch
performance. This new balance
location provides for an almost
neutral, verging on slightly stable
flight behavior. Of course, feel
free to adjust the balance location
slightly if you prefer a little more
or a little less stability.
