Symptom
Possible Cause
Engine smokes.
⇒
Check the oil level and adjust as needed.
⇒
You may be operating the machine on too great an
incline. (See SLOPES section on page 14)
⇒
Check the air filter and clean or replace if needed.
⇒
You may be using the wrong oil—too light for the
temperature. Refer to your Engine Manufacturer’s
Owner’s Manual for detailed information.
⇒
Clean the cooling fins if they’re dirty.
⇒
If the engine still smokes, call

for assistance.
The belt frays or
rolls over the
pulley.
⇒
A pulley groove may be nicked. Check the belt for
wear and hard spots. File off any nicks on the pulley.

Check the belt guide alignment. See page 21.
⇒
The belt may be stretched. Replace it.
Machine is hard
to get into
reverse.
⇒
Shift lever may need adjusting. See page 28.
Wheels pulling
left or right.
⇒
Check the tire(s) pressure. See page 8.
Machine lacks
traction
⇒
Is the load even in the bed? The more weight over the
wheels the better the traction.
⇒
Try a lower gear.
⇒

Wheels won’t
