How to Setup Multi-Purpose User Analogs
11.3
This section explains how to setup a user-definable analog alarm. The following example shows how to
setup an analog to monitor temperature via a 4-20mA sensor.
1. Login to the BVM web browser and click the
Edit > User Analogs
menu. Click the
Enable
checkbox
next to the analog to turn the alarm ON.

2. Next, give this analog alarm a

, then click the

button at the bottom of the page.
3. Click the

link for this particular analog to edit more specific settings. Start by selecting
thresholds. The threshold values in this example will be temperatures values. These thresholds
(labeled as MjU, MnU, MnO, and MjO) tell the BVM that I want be notified of when the temperature
rises above or drops below these set levels. In this example, we are selecting the following values:
Major Under Temp:
45º F
Minor Under Temp:
55º F
Minor Over Temp:
78º F
Major Over Temp:
85º F
3.
Record
Freq
: Enter the time period after which the value of the analog channel will be logged for
retrieval at a later time. Enter the following letter to indicate the length of time: s = Seconds; m =
Minutes, h = hours
4.
Deadband
: This is the amount, in volts, that the channel needs to go above or below a threshold in
order to cause an alarm. If scaling is enabled, it is the value in the scale form. Example: Degrees F
5.
Units
: This is the 3 unit value the BVM will display as the label for the units you want to measure. This
field is only used for readability - It does not affect how the BVM works with your analog sensor. For
this example, we want to show “F” for Fahrenheit, but you can also choose "C" for Celcius, for
example.
