Handing Detection

SmartDate 5 Printer

The handing detect switch is operated by the printhead carriage.

Following power up the printhead is always driven toward the left-hand "Home"
switch.

The "Handing switch" is activated first but the firmware ignores this signal until the
"Home switch" is detected.

When this switch is detected the handing switch is checked.

If found to be operated the printer is deemed to be a Left Hand printer.

If the printhead module is assembled as a Right Hand printer, an additional
component is attached to the print module.

This ensures that the "Home switch" is activated but not the "Handing switch".

When this switch is detected the handing switch is checked.

In this case the printer is deemed to be a Right Hand printer.

SmartDate 5s - Shuttle Continuous Printer

The switch is fitted below the mounting holes for the Left Hand shuttled printer
carriage plate.

The switch is operated when the printer is configured as a Left Hand printer.

If the printer is configured as a Right hand printer, the switch is not active.
