291

English

Doro Secure

®

291 is a photo-electronic smoke detector compatible with the

European social alarm standard for radio transmitters. The range of the detector

varies depending on the environment in which it is used. Walls, floors, furniture and

other obstacles may limit coverage between the detector and the alarm unit.

Smoke detectors are not able to extinguish any fire. In case of an alarm -

evacuate and call the fire service!

Pair/register with an alarm unit

Follow the alarm units manual section about pairing and press the button on the

Doro Secure

®

291 when pairing/registering. The Doro Secure

®

 291 is now ready for

operation.

Suitable locations

Enhanced protection

•

Place one detector in each room.

Basic protection

•  Place one detector on each floor.
•

Place a detector near sleeping areas (for instance in the corridor leading to

bedrooms. For corridors in excess 10m, place a detector at each end.)

•

Place a detector in each bedroom belonging to a smoker.

Avoid locations that are given in section Unsuitable locations.

The Doro Secure

®

291 performs best when installed on the ceiling in the centre of

the room. If this is not possible, ensure it is installed at least 50cm from the wall.

Unsuitable locations

To avoid false alarms and malfunctions, do not install the detector:

•

Less than 1m away from heating, cooling or ventilation ducts. Any smoke may be

drawn away or diluted.

•  In places where the temperature may fall below 0°C or rise above +55°C, as there

would be a risk of the detector not operating properly.

•  In a location where there is a risk of condensation forming. Bathrooms and

laundry rooms must be avoided.

•  In places such as poorly-ventilated kitchens or garages, where smoke may be

released and cause false alarms.

•  In places with vapor, dust or smoke.

Installation

Make sure that no cables, water pipes or gas pipes are located inside the wall

before drilling into it.

1.

Remove the detector’s attachment base by rotating it counter clockwise.

2.

Place the attachment base in the desired location.

3.

Fix the attachment base securely to the surface.

4.

Install the battery, see

Replace the battery.

5.

Fix the detector to the attachment base by rotating it clockwise until it locks into

place.

Note!

Battery lock - the smoke detector cannot be fitted to its base without a battery.

What if I accidentally set off my smoke detector?

If you ever accidentally set off your detector, don’t worry. The service provider or carer will

call you immediately upon receiving a signal. When you answer the phone just confirm

that it is a false alarm/mistake and that everything is all right. Please remember that if

you do not answer the service operator will have to treat the call as an emergency.

To silence the detector after a sounding alarm

If you are aware of the source of smoke (such as smoke from cooking or hot steam),

simply fan the smoke away or open a window to clear the smoke out.

Self test

In normal mode the detector emits a red flashing light at least once a minute.
Check the functionality once a month, as well as after replacing the battery (see

Replace

the battery), by pressing the Test button on the cover.

•  The LED indicator flashes.
•  A high pitched sound emits (94dB(A) at 1m, 85dB(A) at 3m).
•

Releasing the button stops the alarm immediately.

Make people living in the home familiar with the sound of the detector, and get them

accustomed to evacuate when they hear the alarm.

Do not start detector in any other way (for example, by lighting a lighter). You

can destroy the detector, or worse, start a fire.

Keep a reasonable distance (1 arm’s length) from the detector in order to protect

your hearing from the very powerful sound.

Maintenance

Your Doro Secure

®

291 is designed to minimise maintenance, nevertheless some simple

operations should be carried out.

Clean

Once a year:

•

Remove the detector from its base (rotate counter clockwise).

•  Clean the vents of the detector (from the outside of the cover) with a vacuum cleaner

or with a soft brush.

•

Use a slightly damp cloth to clean the surface of the cover.

We recommend that the detector is replaced after 10 years.

Replace the battery

When the battery runs low the detector emits a red flashing

light together with a short beeping sound at least once a

minute. The detector continues to function fully during at

least thirty days, however the battery shall be replaced as

soon as possible. Check the functionality after each battery

change by performing a self test, see Self test.
Every 2 years:

•

Remove the detector from its base (rotate counter

clockwise).

•  Remove the used battery. Batteries

must not be

disposed of with your other household waste, see WEEE.

•

Place a new battery and make sure that it is properly

connected.

•

Fix the detector to the attachment base by rotating it clockwise until it locks into

place.

•

Perform a self test of the detector.

CAUTION

: the function of the sensor is ensured by using one of the following

batteries: Duracell MN1604 or Energizer 522.

Detector failure

Should the detector continue to beep after replacing the battery:

•  Clean the detector, see Clean. If this doesn’t silence the detector, replace the battery.
•  If this doesn’t silence the failure alarm, replace the detector.

Warranty

This product is guaranteed for a period of 24 months from the date of purchase. In the unlikely

event of a fault occurring during this period, please contact the place of purchase. Proof of
