Piston and connecting rod
1.
Use a piston heater to heat the piston approxi-
mately 100 °C (212 °F) for 5 minutes.
2.
Align the piston pin hole with the oiled connecting
rod small end and press the piston pin (by lightly
tapping with a rubber hammer) to assemble the
connecting rod with the piston.
3.
Nothing the direction of the piston, make the longer
side(machined with key groove on the bearing) of
the connecting rod big end.
4.
On the piston head surface, the longer side con-
necting rod big end is in opposite direction from the
valve seating surface as well as in the same direc-
tion with the narrow margin of the combustion
chamber.
5.
Install the snap rings and check to see that it is
securely assembled.
6.
Install the piston ring in the piston using piston ring
pliers.
7.
Identify the mark “Y” or “TOP” on the ring end to
prevent the top and bottom of the piston ring from
being interchanged and make the marked portion
face upward . (The surface marked as “Y” is upper
surface.)
8.
Adjust the angle among individual piston ring gaps
to 90° and fit a piston assembling jig onto the pis-
ton, Use care not to match the ring gaps with the
pin direction.
9.
Install the bearing by aligning it with the connecting
rod key groove and apply oil to the bearing and pis-
ton.
