Chapter 1 Introduction to the PowerGate™ Modem

The PowerGate™ modem constitutes an ideal way to connect any PC application, including the
PowerBus™ software tools, to the PowerBus™ devices via a RS-232 interface. It may also be
used by any other RS-232 device that needs to communicate with other PowerBus™ device.

Users should refer to the PowerBus™ Glossary (document #G-PWB-0100) for a description of all
PowerBus™ related terms and definitions mentioned in this document.

Key Features and Benefits

Integrates the Domosys U-510 series IC, which makes it possible to configure remote U-
510 / U-520 series IC based devices and properly monitor the network traffic using
software applications such as the PowerBus™ development Tool, PowerBus™ Installation
tool and PowerBus™ test tool.

Allows developers to easily interface PowerBus™ logical networks via a standard RS-232
connector using a simple set of commands. Refer to the PowerBus™ U-510 / U-520
series IC datasheet for a description of the protocol.

Connects to the PowerBus™ AC power line medium using the PowerBus™ AC adaptor
(included in the package).

Can be used both as a modem and a device.
