Section 3: Maintenance and lubrication

Proper maintenance and adjustment is the key to longevity. With careful and systematic
control, you can avoid expensive maintenance, time and repairs.

CAUTION, For safety reasons, each maintenance operation must be performed

with the tractor PTO disengaged, the flail mower lowered completely to the
ground and the tractor engine turned off with the ignition key removed.

After using the flail mower, check all bolts to make sure they are tight and check drive

belt tension.

Replace worn, damaged or illegible warning labels. You can get new labels from your

dealer.

Replacement of blades:

IMPORTANT: Make sure the blade is the same length as the others on the flail mower. This will
keep the rotor's rotation balanced.

1.

Remove bolt and nut.

2.

Remove old knife.

3.

Install new blade and existing bolt.

4.

Fasten with nut.

Belt Installation:

CAUTION, Belt drive system is under spring tension; Use caution to avoid
personal injury!

1.

Remove the belt guard

2.

Release belt tension by loosening the belt tension bolt until the belt can be removed.

3.

With the tension relieved from the belt, remove the old belt from the pulleys.

4.

Tighten the belt tension bolt.

5.

Put the belt and belt shields back on.

Storage:

At the end of the working season or when the flail mower is not to be used for an extended
period, clean off any dirt or grease that may have accumulated on the flail mower and any of
the moving parts.

1.

Clean as needed.

2.

Check blades for wear and replace if necessary.

3.

Inspect flail mower for loose, damaged or worn parts and adjust or replace as
necessary.

4.

Store the flail mower inside if possible.

5.

Renew parts where the paint is worn or scratched to prevent rust.

6.

Replace any damaged or missing security labels.
