Part No. 6100001 Rev 6/17 Installing Tunnel Shu:ers® Page 9
5.4 Install Bo;om Horizontal Rail
The Bo:om Horizontal Rail has 3 pre-‐drilled holes
through it. Insert a Bo:om Coupler into one end of a
Horizontal Rail and then insert the other end of the
Rail into the Bo:om Coupler that was just installed
into the 1
st
VerRcal Rail.
Note:
It is easier to slide the
Bo:om Horizontal Rail onto the Bo:om Couplers
when installing from an outward angle as shown in
photo #2.
Before screwing the Rail down to the 2x4, run a
small bead of Caulk behind the Bo:om Coupler (pic
3) and slip on the next bo:om rail to the other end of
the coupler. Then secure the first Bo:om Horizontal
Rail to the 2x4 by installing three , 3 inch Stainless
steel screws.
Do Not over $ghten as this will
damage the plas$c rail
.
Be sure all coupler and rail
joints are $ght before screwing down.
Now run a bead of Caulking (clear) along the inside
edge of the Bo:om Horizontal Rail (pic 4).
5.5 Install Second Ver$cal Rail
Place a second VerRcal Rail down onto the exposed
Bo:om Coupler, but do not secure in place.
Using two Top Couplers and one Top Horizontal Rail
(1 pre-‐drilled hole facing you) hold the VerRcal Rail
and the Top Horizontal Rail into posiRon.
Now in posiRon the Shu:er’s framing should be
square and ready to screw to the wall. It is a good
idea to check the upright angle of each VerRcal Rail
with a Carpenters Square as you conRnue to connect
each unit (step 5.3).
It is cri$cal that the Shu;er’s
Frame (Ver$cal & Horizontal Rails) remain square as
they are being installed.
Secure the Second VerRcal Rail to the wall by using
a 3 inch Stainless Screw fastened through the hole at
the top of the VerRcal Rail (pic 3).
Now remove the two Top Couplers and the Top
Horizontal Rail and set aside for later (pic 4).
