16 THIRD-PARTY PRODUCT GUIDELINES
The following Guidelines are intended to ensure compliance with DSC Board services when implementing
third-party hardware used in conjunction with Diamond Systems boards or components, as part of a solution.
16.1 Board Design Considerations
Test Points
The board must consist of well-defined and clearly accessible Test Points to enable debugging procedures.
To perform reliable testing, the location of the Test Points must allow various types of testing equipment and
methods to diagnose and detect signal receptions.
All test points must be located on the top side of the board and labeled in silkscreen with distinct
specifications, such as, “+5” and not “TP1”, to identify the points.
All test points must be holed either through a hole-pad which must be minimum
020/0.02” (0.508 mm) in
diameter or a solid circular pad of
minimum .030” (0.762 mm) diameter.
A minimum set of test points must be available on:
All Power Supplies and Grounds
All Clocks
All Key Chip Selects
All Key Chip Status Signals
Operating Temperature
The board must be capable of powering-up and operating at the minimum to the maximum standard
operating temperature range of -20° to +80°C consistently during and beyond the testing phase.
Component Criterion
All components must meet the following criteria unless a waiver is provided by Diamond Systems.
The component must be available from mainstream US Distributors.
A Supplier’s Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ) unit cost must not exceed USD 200/-.
The component’s Lead-Time –the time involved between the commencement and completion of
the operation
–must not exceed 6 weeks.
16.2 Labeling Guidelines
Connector Labeling
Reference Designators are unique component identifiers
–typically in a letter followed by a number format
–designated to specific locations on a board assembly.
All I/O connectors, other than gold finger connectors, must be labeled in silkscreen, identifying the
reference designator and function.
The Reference Designator must be close to Pin 1 for orientation purposes.
The connector function must be printed and placed along the long edge of the connector if possible, else at
a suitable location to ensure unambiguous identification.
The label must be printed in CAPITAL LETTERS.
The label height dimensions must be between .060”/0.06” (1.5 mm) and .090”/0.90” (2.2 mm),
preferably 070”/0.70” (1.7 mm).
All connectors along the same edge of the board must have the label text aligned in the same
direction.
The text on all labels identifying the connectors must be printed in the same alignment
–left,
centered, right, or justified
–and pasted close to the connectors along the same edge of the board
in a neat row.
