Use of the device
The Devine DI-P is a passive DI box, used to transform unbalanced high impedance audio signals to
balanced audio signals. This makes the signal more suitable to travel long distances to mixing consoles or
audio interfaces. By doing this, the chance of audio disturbance and unwanted noise is decreased
significantly.
The Devine DI-P is a passive unit and requires no additional power source. DI boxes come in several
varieties, for example powered by a 9 Volt DC battery, or by an additional power adapter. The DI-P uses
passive internal electronics and components to transfer any unbalanced signal to a balanced signal.
The DI-P is equipped with a 6.35 mm TS jack input with 50 kilohm impedance, suitable for devices such as
electric guitars, (mono) keyboard signals, etc.
A parallel output is available to transfer the signal to other equipment. For example, if you wish to connect a
keyboard but meanwhile also use a stage monitor, the link output could be sent directly to a stage monitor for
the keyboard player.
The various signal sources, such as guitars or keyboards, also feature other signal impedances. To
compensate for the different input impedances, an attenuator is provided which can decrease the incoming
signal. Choose between an attenuation of –0 dB, -20 dB or -40 dB.
When connecting the balanced output to your mixing console, audio interface or other processing equipment,
you will almost instantly see which attenuation works best.
