Transfers:
Because of the diameter and width of the tires, De-Bug may be slightly
higher from the ground than a conventionally designed wheelchair.
Transferring from one elevation to a lower elevation minimizes this
difference.
The elevation of De-Bug can be lowered further
by reducing
the
air
pressure
in all tires from
5 to 2.5 PSI.
This also makes De-Bug
considerably
easier to propel in very soft sand
. On trails and more
compact surfaces, the tire air pressure should be adjusted back to 5
P.S.I.
The armrests should be removed before performing a lateral transfer
and the front wheels should be locked to stabilize the chair. The arm-
rests are not intended to support the weight of the user during trans-
fers, or to be used as a seat themselves.
For most strong paraplegics, minimal stand-by assistance is re-
quired. We recommend that less able users have an assistant familiar
with transfers
