Sharing Your Printer Locally
You can connect the printer directly to a selected computer, called the “host computer,” on
a network using a USB cable. Your printer can be shared by other users on the network
through a Windows 98, Me, 2000, or XP network printer connection. Before you can share
your printer, you must first setup a Microsoft Windows network.
In Windows 98/Me
Setting Up the Host Computer

Start Windows.

Click the
Start
button, select
Control Panel
, and double-click the
Network
icon.

Click the
File and Print Sharing
box, check the box next to
I want to be able to allow
others to print to my printer
, and click
OK
.

Click
Start
and select
Printers
from
Settings
. Double-click your printer name.

Click
Properties
in the Printer menu.

Click the
Sharing
tab and check the
Shared As
box. Fill in the
Share Name
field and then
click
OK
.
Setting Up the Client Computer

Right-click the
Start
button and select
Explore
.

Open your network folder in the left column.

Right-click the shared name and click
Capture Printer Port
.

Select the port you want, check the
Reconnect at log on
box, and then click
OK
.

Start
button and select
Settings
and then
Printers
.

Double-click your printer icon.

Click the
Printer
menu and point to
Properties
.

Click the
Details
tab, select the printer port, and then click
OK
