the appropriate VTE number (VTE1 and VTE2, numbered from lower to higher) in the
factory.
If there is a pair of 1 GbE management switches in the mini-rack, they have been
installed and configured as the appropriate management switch (
switcha
and
switchb
ordered from lower to higher) in the factory.
If there is a pair of 10 GbE data switches in the mini-rack, they have been installed and
configured as the appropriate data switch (
switch10a
and
switch10b
ordered from
lower to higher) in the factory.
When moving the DLm8500 VTEC equipment from the shipping mini-rack into a third-
party rack, you should maintain the relative order of the components:
l
If there are two VTE servers in the mini-rack, install the lower VTE (VTE1) from
the mini-rack into the third-party rack beneath the upper VTE (VTE2).
l
If there is a pair of 1 GbE management switches in the mini-rack, install the lower
Dell S3048-ON 1 GbE management switch into the third-party rack beneath the
upper Dell S3048-ON 1 GbE management switch.
l
If there is a pair of 10 GbE data switches in the mini-rack, install the lower Dell
S4048-ON 10 GbE data switch into the third-party rack beneath the upper Dell
S4048-ON 10 GbE data switch.
Note:
Install the cable management trays in rack positions between the 10 GbE
and 1 GbE switches, to provide space to pass power cables for the switches and to
connect management network cables between the switches. See
on page 20 for the recommended installation
positioning of DLm8500 Single Rack Solution equipment.
Note:
Do not insert any power cables or network cables through the holes in the
sides of the switch rails, as this could complicate FRU procedures for those
switches.
DLm Mini-Rack Tip Hazard
The 12U mini-rack enclosure (either the Lite Duty or Medium Duty type) weighs
approximately 91 pounds (~41 kg), including the shipping pallet to which the mini-rack
is bolted.
When you remove a VTE server from the 12U mini-rack enclosure, there is a minor tip
hazard. Dell EMC recommend that you use an equipment lift to move the equipment
from the 12U mini-rack into a third-party rack.
Dell EMC recommend that you move the VTE servers first from the mini-rack into the
third-party rack before you move the switches that are shipped higher up in the 12U
mini-rack.
