Getting Started
Here’s what to do:
(If the unit does not behave the first time you power up – contact your dealer, or

do this:
Check the appropriate mains supply for your local mains is marked on the
rear panel.

If it is, using the lead supplied, connect the unit to the mains - connect no
other leads at this stage - and switch on.
The 7 segment display will briefly show:
- - - - 4
and then indicates that it is out of lock:

do this:
Ensure your system volume is set to a low level, then connect the
analogue outputs (either balanced or unbalanced) to the inputs of your
pre or power amplifier.
do this:
Connect the digital output of a CD player or recorder to the AES1 input
and if the AES1 input is not already selected, press the
AES1
button to
select it.

The unit will detect the sample rate, lock to it and unmute. The display will show
the sample rate, for example:

do this:
If the
Mute
LED is still lit, press the
Mute
button once.
You should have audio.
Note that the balanced and unbalanced outputs are active simultaneously on the
dCS 954
and may both be connected to external equipment simultaneously if
required.
Now you will need to familiarise yourself with how the front panel controls and
the menu system work.
