Step 11 - Installing the In-Line Solar TufFilta™
Install the
TufFilta™
in-line cartridge filter directly after the solar pump.
The TufFilta should be positioned to allow for easy access for maintenance, and be clear of other equipment that
may be sensitive to pool water that may spill during cartridge element replacement.
An isolating valve (not supplied in kit) can be installed immediately downstream of the filter to enable removal of the
strainer for cleaning without purging any water left in the line between the filter and the drain down tube.
Step 12 – Installing the Drain-Down Tube
A drain down tube needs to be installed connecting the supply and return pipes to assist with system drain down
when the solar pump is turned off - ensuring no stagnant water in the collector system. The connection should be
done between two vertical sections of the pipes, located above the maximum water line of the pool.
• Drill a 9.0mm (or 11/32”) hole in each PVC pipe in the appropriate position and orientation, ensure the drilled
wad, swarf and burrs are removed
• Insert the supplied rubber grommets, tapered end into the hole ensuring the heads sit flush with the outside of
the pipes – do not use any form of lubricant
• Lubricate the short ends of the supplied barbs with silicone lubricant, and insert the barbs into the rubber
grommets ensuring full engagement
• Cut the supplied EPDM tubing to a convenient length (without stretching or kinking when
