Overview

Reconfiguration step-by-step

Replacement process

When replacing a generic device on an AK-SM 800 system, issues are seen which leads to additional

time spent during this replacement process.

Typical issues are:

1. Duplicate addresses
2. Uncfg messages shown
3. *Mismatch* shown
4. Loss of programmed settings

The following guideline explains how to address and/or avoid such issues by following a standard

replacement method. The guide also describes known pitfalls which could lead to above issues.

It is the precondition for this guideline that a system is fully configured and operational with at least

one case controller (generic device).

Replace controller

and connect device

Update SM 800

Firmware

Install required EDF

files and Device List

Reconfigure SM

800 for new device

Step 1: Replace controller

Before making the physical replacement of

the device, ensure that unintended alarms

are not sent to monitoring centers. The field

communication line must be disconnected and

the new device reconfigured, before the alarm

system will function properly again for the given

device.

Replace the controller and reconnect the field

communication line from the System Manager to

the new device.

Configure the device with the correct field bus

address and application.

Step 3: Install required EDF files

and Device List

Please refer to the User Guide

All changes to the device.ls3 file and EDF files

require a unit reset.

Step 2: Update SM 800 firmware

It is advised to always use the latest SM 800

firmware in order to take advantage of features

and support for latest devices.

Please refer to the User Guide

1. Confirm scan status:

Confirm current Scan Status for existing configuration. Address 10 shows an existing AK-CC 550

MODBUS.

Step 4: Reconfigure SM 800 for new device

The recommended method to reconfiguring a

newly added device as replacement of another

is to use the manual configuration screens rather

than the assisted layout wizard.

If you are replacing the controller with a

controller of the same type and software version,

no EDF related changes to the system manager is

required.
