Appendix: Range Performance
The following tables describe the Calibir camera’s theoretical ranges for detection, orientation,
recognition and identification, based on the response for the 17 µm detector (based on worst case
Johnson’s Criteria without compensation for reduced visibility).
Metric
Definition
Detection
An object is present.
Orientation
Object is symmetrical, asymmetric, horizontal or vertical.
Recognition
The type of object can be discerned (for example, a person vs. a vehicle).
Identification
A specific object can be discerned (for example, a woman vs. a man, the specific vehicle).
Note: These measurements give a 50% probability of an observer discriminating an
object to the specified level. However, these measurements are theoretical and are not
guaranteed performance metrics.
