STATUS AND WARNING INDICATORS
The MLX-
3000 features several indicators which are triggered by signal wires in the bike’s wiring harness. Use a service
manual to
locate and safely splice the supplied harness into the bike’s main harness. Available indicators include security
(red key symbol), check
engine (red ‘E’), ABS (red ‘ABS’), low fuel (amber fuel pump symbol). Some of which may not be
active on your motorcycle.
SECURITY SYSTEM INDICATOR
The security system indicator is a red light that is activated by 12 volts to the purple wire. It will light up whether the gauge
is powered or not.
CRUISE INDICATOR
When a ground signal is applied to the blue wire, the cruise indicator will activate.
ENGINE INDICATOR
The check engine indicator is activated by a ground signal on the white/blue wire.
SPEEDOMETER
The stock, transmission-mounted speed sensor can be used; the supplied, three-wire speed harness connects the
transmission speed sensor to the speedometer. This instrument will also accept most aftermarket inductive, Hall-effect, or
ground switch sensors.
For three wire Hall-effect sensors, refer to the installation instructions for the sensor to determine wire color code. Most
three wire sensors use the following color code: RED
– power, BLACK – ground, WHITE – speed signal. Connect the
sensor signal wire to the MLX-3200 3-wire harness green wire, connect the sensor power wire to the red wire from the 3-
wire harness, and connect the sensor ground wire to the black wire from the 3-wire harness.
For a speed sensor integrated into a vehicle wiring harness, consult a service manual to determine the color code and
location of the speedometer signal.
If the factory harness su5V to the sensor, please utilize the factory
connection in place of the white/purple power wire.
TACHOMETER
The tachometer is activated by connecting the yellow wire from the main harness to the negative side of the coil or an
ignition module tach output. The tachometer input is adjustable for 1-16 cylinders. The 1 cylinder setting is used for single-
fire ignition systems without a buffered tach output.
For carbureted models, connect to the pink wire to the negative side of the coil and set the tach for 2 cylinders; for fuel
injected models connect to either the blue/orange or yellow/blue under the seat in the harness along the right side frame
rail and set the tach for 1 cylinder. For tach signals integrated into a vehicle wiring harness, consult a service manual to
determine the color code and location of the tachometer signal.
