Experiments
Experiment A
1. Connect the wires from ONE battery holder to the switch and lamp holder as shown on the diagram.
2. Check all wire connections and insert the battery as shown on the diagram
3. Close the switch (ON position) and check if the lamp is on.
Now we have build an electronic circuit with a voltage of 1.5 Volt.
Parts list
Miniature lamp
Electronic
circuit
Electronic circuit means that electric current is flowing in a closed circle through the wires
and electronic parts.
Experiment B
1. Connect the wires of both battery holders in series (one after the other, see drawing) with the switch and lamp holder
so the result is a new electronic circuit as shown on the drawing.
2. Check all wire connections and insert the batteries as shown on the diagram. Take good care of correct polarity !
3 Close the switch (ON position) and check if the lamp is on and if it is glowing brighter than in experiment 1.
Now we have build an electronic series circuit with a voltage of 3 Volt.
Series circuit
Parallel circuit
Two batteries in a row (like links in a chain) are called a series circuit. This circuit gives a double
battery voltage and a single battery current. The lamp will be on just as long as in a single battery
circuit but it will glow much brighter.
Experiment C
1. Connect the wires of both battey holders in parallel (one near the other, see drawing) with the switch and
lampholder so the result is a new electronic circuit as shown on the drawing.
2. Check all wire connections and insert the batteries as shown on the diagram. Take good care of correct polarity !
3 Close the switch (ON position) and check if the lamp is on and if it is glowing the same as in experiment 1
Now we have build an electronic parallel circuit with a voltage of 1,5 Volt.
NOTE !
First assemble the complete
wiring before inserting the
batteries in the battery holder!
Two batteries in a parallel circuit have a single battery voltage but a double battery current. The lamp is
glowing at the same brightness as with a single battery but it will glow twice the time as with a single battery.
Functions and explanation of solar cells
1 pc. Miniature lamp
1 pc. Solar E Car
2 pcs. AAA battaries 1.5 V
SOLAR EXPERIMENT
Connect the motor with the solar panel and see if the motor is rotating
(keep the panel in very bright sun or lamp light!)
1). When do you think the motor will rotate fast?
2). What will happen with the motor speed when
there is a cloud in front of the sun?
THE MOTOR WILL ROTATE
MORE ABOUT SOLAR ON THE NEXT PAGE
3). What will happen with the motor speed when
you put your hand in front of the solar panel?
THE MOTOR WILL ROTATE
4). What will happen with the motor speed when
the solar panel receives MUCH MORE (sun)light?
THE MOTOR WILL ROTATE
A) Faster
B) Slower
C) Same speed
D) Does not rotate at all
A)Faster
B) Slower
C) Same speed
D) Does not rotate at all
A) Faster
B) Slower

D) Does not rotate at all
A) In VERY bright (sun)light
B) In NOT so bright (sun)light
