MEASUREMENT AND TEST
2. MICROWAVE RADIATION TEST
PROCEDURE
1. P repare M icrow ave E nergy S urvey M eter,
600cc glass beaker, and glass therm om eter 100° C (212° F ).
2. P our 275cc ± 15cc of tap w ater initially at 20 ± 5 ° C (68 ± 9° F ) in the
600 cc glass beaker w ith an inside diam eter of approx. 95 m m (3.5 in.).
3. P lace it at the center of the tray and set it in a cavity.
4. C lose the door and operate the oven.
5. M easure the leakage by using M icrow ave E nergy S urvey M eter w ith
dual ranges, set to 2450M H z.
(1) M easured radiation leakage m ust not exceed the value prescribed
below. Leakage for a fully assem bled oven w ith door norm ally
closed m ust be less than 4m W /cm
2
.
(2) W hen m easuring the leakage, always use the 5 cm (2 in.) space
cone w ith probe. H old the probe perpendicular to the cabinet and door.
P lace the space cone of the probe on the door, cabinet, door seem ,
door view ing screen, the exhaust air vents and the suction air vents.
(3) Measuring should be in a counter-clockwise direction at a rate of 1 in./sec.
If the leakage of the cabinet door seem is unknow n, m ove the probe
m ore slow ly.
(4) W hen m easuring near a corner of the door, keep the probe perpendicular to the areas m aking sure the probe end at the
base of the cone does not get closer than 2 in. from any m etal. If it does not, erroneous reading m ay result.
WARNING
M ake sure to check the m icrow ave leakage before and after repair of adjustm ent.
A lw ays start m easuring of an unknow n field to assure safety for operating personnel from m icrow ave energy.
D o not place your hands into any suspected m icrow ave radiation field unless the safe density level is known.
C are should be taken not to place the eyes in direct line w ith the source of m icrow ave energy.
Slowly approach the unit under test until the radiometer reads an appreciable m icrowave leakage from the unit under the test.
