1. INTRODUCTION
To enjoy your new appliance as long as possible, please read carefully the Operating Instructions
and the attached safety instructions before putting the appliance into operation. We also recom-
mend keeping the Operating Instructions for future reference. Making technical changes to improve
the appliance as part of the continuous product development reserved. This document represents
the original Operating Instructions.
2. SUPPLY INCLUDES
Take the appliance out of the transport container and check whether there are the following parts:
• Motor hedge trimmer with jaw & shearing knife
• Knife cover
• Operating Instructions
If any parts are missing or are damaged, please contact your dealer.
Appliance description
Motor hedge trimmer with performance of 0.9 PS for professional treatment of bushes in the industry
and private sector. Counter-rotating knives with double-sided blades, functional handle with rotation
of 180°, anti-vibration protection, cable starter, Primer pump for fast and trouble-free starting, hand
protection, optimum weight distribution.

4. GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Please read carefully the Operating Instructions before using the appliance for the first time. If there
are any doubts regarding the appliance connection and operation, please contact the manufacturer
(service department).
PLEASE FOLLOW CAREFULLY THESE INSTRUCTIONS TO ENSURE HIGH SAFETY LEVEL:
To provide safe operation of this hedge trimmer, it is necessary to strictly keep all instructions and
information regarding the safety, assembly and operation included in the Operating Instructions. All
persons operating or servicing the appliance must know the Operating Instructions and be aware of
the potential risks. Keep children and ill and disabled persons out of reach of the appliance. Children
must be carefully supervised if they are near the appliance. Keep any applicable regional and local
safety regulations. The same applies to all provisions regarding the occupational health and safety.
The manufacturer will not be held liable for any personal or material damage if the appliance is
changed in an unauthorised manner.
CAUTION!
• Keep the place of your work clean and tidy. Mess in the place of your work and work-table increa-
ses the risk of accident and injuries.
• Pay attention to conditions of environment where you are working. After starting the engine, the
motor appliance starts producing toxic combustion products. These gases may be invisible and with
no smell. Therefore, you must never work with the appliance in closed or poorly ventilated spaces.
Provide adequate lighting when trimming. Provide good stability when trimming in wet, snow or ice
on slopes.
• Do not let other persons get to the appliance. Keep visitors and bystanders, especially children
and ill or poor persons, in a safe distance from the place of your work.
• Make sure tools are stored in a safe manner. Tools that are not used should be kept in a dry place,
elevated if possible, or lock them to make them inaccessible to other persons.
• Use the right appliance for each type of work. Do not use e.g. small appliances or accessory
equipment for works that actually need to be performed with big appliances. Use the appliances
only for purposes for which they have been designed. Do not overload the appliance!
• Wear adequate clothing. Clothing must be practical and not intervene in your work.
• Use personal protective equipment. Wear safety shoes with steel toes and a non-slip sole.
• Wear protective glasses. Items may be thrown-away and hit you.
• Wear ear protection. Wear personal ear protection, e. g. ear pegs.
• Hand protection. Wear solid gloves. Rubber gloves offer a good protection.
• Be careful at all times. Pay attention to what you are doing. Use common sense when working. Do
not use any motor appliances when you are tired. You must not work with the appliance when you
are under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medicines.
• Look out for damaged parts. Check the appliance before using it. Are any parts damaged? Consi-
der seriously whether the appliance is going to work perfectly and safely if slightly damaged.
• Approved parts to be used only. Identical spare parts to be used for servicing and repairs only. For
that purpose, contact an authorised service centre. Provide the right alignment and adjustment of
movable parts. Do parts snap in each other properly?Are any parts damaged? Is everything insta-
lled properly? Are all other conditions for perfect working satisfied? Any damaged protection equip-
ment, etc. must be properly repaired or replaced by authorised persons, unless explicitly provided
otherwise in the Operating Instructions. Any defective switches must be replaced by an authorised
service centre. Please contact your local service centre for any scheduled repairs.
• WARNING! Using accessory equipment and extensions not recommended in these Operating
Instructions may put persons and objects at risk.
• Do not incline from the place of your work Avoid any abnormal body posture. Make sure your
posture is safe; keep balance at all times.
The appliance may only be used for the given purpose of use. Any deviation from the purpose of use
is considered an unauthorised use. The user, not the manufacturer in any case, will be liable for any
material and personal damage caused as a result of an unauthorised use.
Appliance-specific safety instructions
Turn off the engine before any appliance adjustment or servicing.
The appliance meets all applicable safety provisions. Repairs may only be executed by qualified
engineers in authorised service centres, using original spare parts for that purpose. There is a risk of
injury with the above-mentioned failing to be provided.
It is absolutely necessary to know the safety regulations applicable in the place of using the applian-
ce as well as all other generally recognised safety regulations.
Check the appliance for any damage. Do not use the appliance if defective or damaged.
Pay attention to what you are doing. Use common sense when working.
Appliance to be used in an appropriate environment only. Not to be exposed to wet or moisture.
Adequate lighting to be provided for work at all times.
Switch the appliance immediately off in any dangerous situation or when facing a technical failure.
Tools and accessory equipment approved by the manufacturer to be used only. Using any not
approved parts poses a significant risk of injury.
Children and persons lacking the knowledge of and experience in handling the appliance or who are
limited by their physical, sensory and mental skills must not use the appliance, unless supervised or
managed by a safety engineer.
Children must be watched in order not to play with the appliance.
Do not overload your appliance. Work within the specified performance range at all times.
Never aim the cutter bar at your body or other persons or animals.
Hold the appliance with one hand on the handle with the switch (pic. A/4) while the other hand being
on the guide handle (pic. 1/6).
Shearing knife may injure your hands and fingers and cause LIFE-THREATENING cutting inju-
ries!
Long using of a motor appliance may lead to blood circulation disorders as a result of vibra-
tions. However, the time of using the appliance may be prolonged by wearing appropriate gloves or
taking regular breaks. Be sure to know that person dispositions to poor blood circulation, low outsi-
de temperatures and big pressure on the appliance when working make the time of using the
appliance shorter.
Never start the appliance in closed or poorly ventilated spaces.
Do not use the hedge trimmer near flammable liquids and gases.
Perfect shearing knives to be used only, i.e. well sharpened and with no cracks, scratches, deforma-
tion, etc.
Any defective shearing knives must be replaced immediately.
Do not use any shearing knives not meeting the technical specifications of these Operating Instruc-
tions.
Make sure the shearing knife is fitted in the right position.
The protective equipment of the appliance must not be disassembled in any case or put out of
operation in any manner.
Any damaged or defective protective equipment must be immediately replaced.
After finishing any servicing work or repair, safety or protective equipment must be refitted properly.
The sheared material must be necessarily without any nails and similar items.
Never try to remove any free splinters, pieces of wood or any jammed material from the hedge
trimmer when in operation.
Use as designated
The hedge trimmer is only appropriate for trimming hedges, bushes and ornamental bushes while
following all technical specifications and safety instructions.
Any other use is considered a use in conflict with the designation. The manufacturer will not be held
liable for any consequential damages and injuries. Please be sure to know that the appliance has
not been designed for industrial purposes.
Safety instructions for first starting up
• WARNING!
The operating safety of the hedge trimmer must be checked before putting it into
operation. Do not start the appliance in case of any doubts!
The following should especially be provided:
• Proper fitting of the shearing knife
• Light running of all switches
• Safe fitting of the socket plug. If the socket plug is loose, sparks may be produced and the resul-
ting mixture of fuel and air may get ignited.
• Make sure the handles are clean so that the hedge trimmer could be guided safely.
When trimming wood that has been treated or processed before, attention should especially be paid
to nails, bolts, etc. Remove any undesirable items before working.
Before starting the hedge trimmer, make sure the shearing knife is properly fitted and movable parts
of the appliance are not obstructed.
Branches of diameter exceeding 14 mm should first be cut off by branch shears to prevent the
appliance from damaging.
5. PUTTING THE APPLIANCE INTO OPERATION (PIC. A+C)
Add fuel for 2-stroke to the appropriate opening (pic. A/2). Make sure the liquid is not spilled (igni-
tion risk). Unleaded petrol with brand-name oil for air-cooled 2-stroke engine in the 1:40 ratio should
always be filled up. This means that e.g. for 5 litres of petrol 1.125 litres of oil must be added.
CAUTION: Turn the engine off before refuelling. The tank cap should be opened carefully so
that the existing overpressure could get slowly reduced and fuel does not squirt. When working, the
surface of the hedge trimmer gets heated to a high temperature. Before refuelling, let the appliance
cool down. Otherwise, fuel could get ignited and cause serious burns. When refuelling, it is always
necessary not to fill up too much fuel. If the liquid pours over, remove it at once and clean the
appliance. After refuelling, make always sure the screw cap is tightened to prevent it from getting
released due to vibrations produced when working.
You must be at least 3 metres from the place of refuelling. 4
Put the switch (p ic. A/3) to the “ON“ position. At cold starting, the choke switch (pic. A/7) must be
shifted to the left.
• With the manual fuel pump (pic. A/8) it is possible to supply fuel to the carburettor by pressing
with your thumb. In this manner, the number of starter pulls after a long operating break will reduce.
• Now put the hedge trimmer to the ground, put your feet to the hand opening and grasp the guide
handle (pic. A/6) with one hand. Pull the starter cable (pic. A/1) with another hand until the engine
starts.
CAUTION! Do not pull the cable too much; Pay attention to the rotating knife at the same time.
• When the engine is running, press the hand throttle
(pic. A/4 up/down) down several times. After some four presses, the choke switch can be shifted to
the right again.
• Use the valve (pic. A/5) to rotate the handle (pic. C).
6. OPERATION (PIC. A+E+D+F)
Remove the knife cover, with the engine being turned off, before using the appliance.
The GUDE petrol hedge trimmer is fitted with an automatic quick-stopping feature that stops the
knife immediately after releasing the hand throttle to prevent any injuries.
• When trimming the hedge, follow regulations applicable in your country or any local regulations.
• Never trim at usual resting hours.
• If branches exceed the maximum cutting power of the appliance, they must be removed by the
branch shears first.
• If any massive shearing is to be performed, shearing must be repeated several times.
Use:
Trapezoidal cutting corresponds to the natural growth of plants and allows hedges to thrive optimally.
• Side areas should first be trimmed bottom-up. The upper edge should be trimmed straight as you
wish to give a roof or rounded shape. In doing so, both sides of the knife must be used.
• If the knife is blocked by solid items, the appliance must be switched off immediately and the
jammed item released subsequently.
•
CAUTION:
Metal items, e.g. wire fences, plant supports, etc. may damage the cutter bar.
• The best cutting performance is achieved by guiding the hedge trimmer in a way teeth of knives
form an angle with the hedge of app. 15° (pic. E).
• To achieve even height of the hedge, stretching a guide line along the hedge is recommended. Cut
off any overlapping branches (pic. D).
• Side areas of the hedge are trimmed by arched movements bottom-up (pic. F).
Switching the appliance off:
To switch the appliance off, the switch (pic. A/3) must be put to the “OFF“ position.
Safety instructions for the operator
See the General safety instructions, Appliance-specific safety instructions, Safety instructing for

• The appliance to be used only after careful reading of the Operating Instructions.
• Behave responsibly to other persons.
• The hedge trimmer to be grasped firmly and safely with both hands at all times!
• Wood and wooden items to be trimmed only!
• Work considerately and put nobody at risk when trimming. Work easily and cautiously!
• Never trim above the shoulder level!
• Work only with a sharpened and properly fitted shearing knife!
• Do not work on a ladder!
• Work only on solid and stable surfaces!
Step by step instructions
• Remove any undesirable items from the place of your work before bush or hedge trimming.
• Wear appropriate protective clothing.
• Start the appliance as specified in the "Operation" section.
• Follow all relevant safety instructions and proceed as described in the "Operation" section.
• After any use, the appliance should be cleaned and the cutting mechanism checked for any
defect.
Transport and storing
• It is necessary to make sure the appliance is always switched off for any transport.
• Clean the appliance thoroughly before storing.
• Keep the appliance in a clean and dry place.
• The hedge trimmer to be only transported with a knife cover being in place. When storing the
hedge trimmer, make sure nobody can be put at risk. Secure the appliance against turnover,
damage and fuel leak.

Mechanical residual risks
Cutting, amputation
Counter-rotating knives may cause serious cutting injuries or amputation of parts of your body.
Never touch the cutter when the appliance is running! Wear protective gloves!
Other risks
Slipping, tripping or falling of persons
When reversing, you might trip and the appliance can capture your legs.
Move the appliance forward only.
Marking:
Behaviour in case of emergency
First aid kit must always be available in the place of your work in case of accident in accordance
with DIN 13164. Material taken out of the first aid kit needs to be supplemented right away.
If help is needed, please provide the following details:

Number of injured persons
Injury type
Provide necessary first aid treatment corresponding to the injury nature and seek qualified medical
help as soon as possible.
Disposal
Disposal instructions are illustrated in the form of pictograms on the device or packaging. Descrip-
tion of the pictograms is given in "Identification" chapter.
Disposal of transport packaging
Packaging protects the device against damage during transport. Packaging materials are usually
selected according to their effect on environment and disposal methods and can therefore be
recycled. Returning of the packaging back to circulation saves resources and costs for packaging
disposal. Parts of the packaging (e.g. foil, styropor) may be dangerous for children.
Risk of suffocation! Keep these parts of the packaging out of reach of children and dispose as soon
as possible.
7. OPERATOR REQUIREMENTS
The operator must carefully read the Operating Instructions before using the appliance.
Qualification
No special qualification is necessary to use the appliance apart from detailed instructions by an
expert.
Minimum age
The appliance may only be operated by persons over 18 years of age who have been instructed in
handling and operating the appliance. Young people between 16 and 18 years of age may only work
with the appliance when supervised by an adult.
An exception includes youngsters operating the appliance within their professional education to
achieve necessary skills under trainer's supervision.
Training
Using the appliance only requires appropriate instructions by an expert or reading the Operating
Instructions. No special training necessary.
Inspections and servicing (pic. A+B)
The following instructions apply to standard conditions of use. Under more difficult conditions,
such as high levels of dust, strongly resinous wood and long daily working hours, it is necessary to
shorten the intervals adequately.
Check the following before starting any work:
• Hand throttle
• Appliance completeness
• Jaw or shearing knife fitting
• Sharpening condition
• Guide bar for any wear or damage
Check the following after finishing your work: Appliance completeness – clean it.
Check and treat regularly the following:
• Air filter (clean it if necessary)
• Spark plug (replace it if necessary)
• Shearing knife sharpening condition (clean and lubricate it properly)
• Every 5 hours of operation, grease the knife transmission (lubricator pic. A/10) with common
multi-purpose fat.

CAUTION!
Switch the hedge trimmer off before any servicing or repair.
• Put the upper and bottom knives over each other so that they overlap each other.
• Sharpen carefully the cutting areas at the given angle (e.g. using the Güde high-speed grinder)
• Repeat the steps for all cutting areas of the upper and bottom knife.
If the shearing knife is damaged too much, it may only be replaced by an authorised service partner.
Safety instructions for inspections and servicing
Only a regularly serviced and treated appliance may be a satisfactory aid. Insufficient servicing and
maintenance may lead to unexpected accidents and injuries.
• Make sure the appliance is switched off.
• Never use aggressive cleaning agents for cleaning. This could lead to appliance damage or des-
truction.
8. ENGINE REPAIRS/FAILURES
Repairs require special professional knowledge and may only be executed by authorised service
centres. Any unauthorised intervention may damage the appliance and put your safety at risk.
