DIS-200G Series Layer 2 Gigabit Industrial Smart Managed Switch Hardware Installation Guide
25
By default, the switch is configured with a privilege level 15 administrator account with the user name
admin
and
password
admin
. This will allow the user to simply connect to this switch for the first time by pressing the ‘
Enter
’ key.
After pressing
Enter
, access will be given to enter commands after the command prompt (
Switch>
) appears.
NOTE:
The default user account automatically gets Administrator level privileges. At least one
Administrator-level user account must exist for the switch.
NOTE:
It is highly recommended to create a user account containing a username and a
password on the switch to prevent unauthorized access to the management interface.
Creating a User Account
Additional user accounts can be created for various levels. This section provides instructions for creating additional
user accounts using the Command Line Interface (CLI).
An example to create a user account for the switch called ‘user’:
Switch>enable
Switch#configure terminal
Switch(config)#username user password pass1234
Switch(config)#
In the example above:
1. At the CLI command prompt, enter the
enable
command to enter the
Privileged EXEC Mode
. Press
Enter
.
2. Enter the
configure terminal
command to enter the
Global Configuration Mode
. Press
Enter
.
3. Enter the
username User password pass1234
command. Press
Enter
. This will create a user account with
the username of
User
and a password of
pass1234
.
NOTE:
Passwords are case sensitive. Usernames can be up to 32 characters in length.
Passwords can be up to 32 plain-text characters in length.
Save the running configuration to the start-up configuration. This means saving the changes made so that, when the
switch is rebooted, the configuration will not be lost. The following shows how to save the running configuration to the
start-up configuration.
Switch# copy running-config startup-config
Building configuration…
% Saving 733 bytes to flash:startup-config
Switch#
After the switch is rebooted, or when the user logs out and logs back in, the newly created username and password
must be entered to access the CLI interface again, as seen below.
