24-port NWay Ethernet Switch User’s Guide
Configuring the Switch Using the Console Interface
195
It is similar to, but not defined as, the hop count in RIP.
The
default cost is
1.
Note:
Route cost is a relative number that is used by
DVMRP to calculate which branches of a multicast
delivery tree should be ‘pruned’. The ‘cost’ is relative to
other costs assigned to other DVMRP routes throughout
the network.
Note:
The higher the route cost, the lower the probability
that the current route will be chosen to be an active
branch of the multicast delivery tree (not ‘pruned’) – if
there is an alternative route.
The
Probe Interval:[10 ]
field allows an entry between 1 and
65,535
seconds and defines the interval between ‘probes’.
The
default is
10.
The
State:<Disabled>
field can be toggled between
Enabled
and
Disabled
and enables or disables DVMRP for the IP
interface.
The default is
Disabled.
