3. Slide the retainer through the tie until it
reaches the end of the cord.

4. Wrap the tie of the retainer around the
power cord and back into the retainer to
lock it. Fasten the tie until the power cord
is secured.

Connecting the Switch
Users can now attach IEEE 802.3af compliant
devices to the PoE ports on the DES-1018MP
by plugging in an Ethernet cable. There are
three types of connections that can be made:
• Switch to End Node
Use standard Ethernet cables to connect
the Switch to PCs outfitted with 10/100
Mbps RJ-45 Network Interface Cards or
routers.
• Switch to Hub or Switch
Use straight or crossover cables to connect
the Switch to another switch or hub.
• Connecting to a Server
Use any port to connect the Switch to a
network backbone or network server.
