Missing or corrupted operating
system firmware
These errors will occur if you remove power
from the controller during a firmware update
before the new firmware has been
completely written to flash.
To correct this problem, reload the operating
system firmware. See CHAPTER 10 for
instructions.
9.3 Fatal Errors
These errors are reported by run-time diagnostic or application firmware when an error is
detected that could cause unreliable or erroneous operation.
When a Fatal Error occurs:
•
The CPU Good LED will not be illuminated,
•
The Multi-Segment Display (MSD) will alternately display “FE “ and the fatal error code
(See section 9.3.2)
•
User program execution will be halted,
•
I/O update will be discontinued and Output Disable will be asserted,
•
Serial, USB, and Ethernet port buffers will be cleared,
•
Pending requests from SF modules and the local communications ports will be aborted.
The local serial, USB, and Ethernet ports will continue to function; however, the type of requests
that will be serviced will be limited to those necessary to determine the cause of the fatal error
and to correct it.
9.3.1 Clearing Fatal Errors
Most other fatal errors can be cleared by initiating a Partial Restart or a Complete Restart using
your programming software. In the event that this does not clear the fatal error, you must
disconnect line power, remove the battery, and then re-apply power.
NOTE:
Removing power and disconnecting the battery will clear the controller memory. The User Program and
all related data will be erased, requiring you to reload the User Program.
After clearing the fatal error you should re-install the battery. Additional information regarding
the error can be obtained from the event log.
