10. Detection Principle 

 

  Hot-wire Semiconductor Sensor 

 

The sensor is constructed of a metal oxide semiconductor that is sintered in a ball on 

a platinum wire coil that functions as both a heater and electrode. When combustible 

gas is absorbed by the surface of the metal oxide semiconductor, the electrical 

conductivity changes due to an oxidation reaction.
