Functions
a) Lamp is connected to the mains voltage
• The integrated rechargeable battery is being charged. It is
not
possible to switch on the lamp
with the “ON/OFF” switch. The LED “Charge” and a control lamp (position light/night light)
between the two fluorescent tubes lights up.
• The lamp automatically activates itself during a mains voltage failure if the “ON/OFF” switch
is in the position “ON”. The lamp then operates as an emergency light.
• When the switch is in the “ON” position, the charging state can be checked by briefly
pressing the “TEST” button (LEDs “BATTERY LOW/HIGH”). At the same time, one or both
fluorescent tubes light up (depending on the position of the “I / II” switch) to enable a
functional testing of the fluorescent tubes and the lamp.
b) Lamp is not connected to the mains voltage
• The lamp can be switched on and off with the “ON/OFF” switch (ON = switched on, OFF =
switched off).
• With the help of the “I / II” switch (the two lamp symbols) you can choose whether one or both
fluorescent tubes are to be activated.
Of course the operating time is much longer when activating only one fluorescent tube
instead of both.
Light Duration, Charging Time
If one fluorescent tube is activated, the maximum light duration is approx. 6 hours when the
rechargeable battery is full. If both fluorescent tubes are operated, a light duration of up to 3.5
hours is possible.
Charging a spent rechargeable battery takes about 14 hours. Since the rechargeable battery
used operates with lead (as in a car battery), it is not necessary to discharge it first (no memory
effect).
If the lamp is used as an emergency light, it can remain connected to the mains voltage.
Changing the Illuminant
Disconnect the lamp from the mains voltage (pull out the mains plug) and switch
it off (switch position “OFF”).
• Remove the transparent cover (loosen two screws).
• The fluorescent tube can be unlocked at the front and at the back by turning it by 90° and
then taken out. However, do not use force, since the illuminant could be destroyed. Risk of
injury!
• Insert an identical illuminant (8W, length 12”/30.5cm) and lock it by again turning it by 90°
(back or forth).
• Replace the cover and tighten the screws.
The defective illuminant has to be disposed of in an environmentally friendly way.
Do not dispose of it in the domestic waste.
Handling
The following unfavourable conditions are to be avoided when installing or transporting the
product:
- dampness or excessive air humidity
- extreme coldness (<0°C) or heat (>45°C), direct sunlight
- dust or flammable gases, fumes or solvents
- strong vibrations, shocks, impacts
- strong magnetic fields, such as in the proximity of machines or loudspeakers
The product is not a toy and should be kept out of reach of children! Children cannot assess
the dangers involved when dealing with electrical devices.
The product is only to be used in dry indoor locations. The product must not get
damp or wet, mortal danger due to electric shock!
Never use the product immediately after it has been brought from a cold into a
warm room. Condensation water that forms as a result might destroy your device.
There is danger of a life-threatening electric shock!
Leave the product switched off and wait until it has reached room temperature.
This can sometimes take several hours.
Make sure the insulation of the whole product is neither damaged nor destroyed.
Check the product for damage before each use!
If you detect any damage, DO NOT connect the product to the mains voltage!
There is a risk of a life-threatening electric shock!
Safe operation must be presumed to be no longer possible, if
- the device or the power line show visible damage,
- the device does not operate any longer and
- after being stored under unfavourable conditions for a long period of time or
- after being exposed to extraordinary stress during transport.
When mounting or setting up the product, make sure that the cable is not bent, jammed or
damaged by sharp edges.
Set up the product so that no one can trip over the cable.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Any maintenance or repair work may be performed by authorised personnel only. Never take
the product apart (apart from the change of illuminant described in these operating instruc-
tions).
Switch of the lamp and disconnect it from the mains voltage before cleaning. It is sufficient to
use a dry, soft and lint-free cloth for cleaning.
Dust can be very easily removed with the help of a soft, clean brush and a vacuum cleaner.
Disposal
Used electronic devices are raw materials and must not be disposed of in the
domestic waste. When the device has reached the end of its service life, please
dispose of it according to the current statutory requirements at your local
collecting site. It is prohibited to dispose of it in the domestic waste! The same
applies to defective illuminants!
Disposal of Used Batteries/Storage Batteries
You, as an end user, are under legal obligation (Battery Regulation) to take back all used
batteries and rechargeable batteries. Disposing of them in the domestic waste is not permitted.
Batteries/rechargeable batteries containing harmful substances are marked with
the following symbols, which point out that disposal in the domestic waste is
prohibited.
The designations for the relevant heavy metals are the following: Cd = cadmium,
Hg = mercury, Pb = lead. You can return used batteries/rechargeable batteries
free of charge to any collecting point in your local authority, to our stores or to any
other store where batteries/rechargeable batteries are sold.
Thus, you comply with the legal obligations and make your contribution to
environmental protection.
