the public supply. For the permitted operating voltage for the wall plug transformer,
please refer to the chapter “Technical Data” at the end of this operating manual.

• Never plug in, or remove, the wall plug transformer when your hands are wet!

Installation and Setup

If required, the metal casing can be fixed to a suitable surface using the two holes on the left and
right side.

Pay attention when tightening the screws that no power, gas or water pipes are damaged.

If you do not wish to fasten the device in place, the surface of the installation location should be
protected from scratch marks by a suitable underlay. Alternatively, you may attach rubber feet
to the casing’s underside, these are available from accessory retailers.

Connection

Connect the round low voltage plug from the wall plug transformer, included in delivery, to the
corresponding socket on the back of the metal case.

Then plug the wall plug transformer into a standard wall socket. The power LED lights up.

Now connect the computer to the multi-card reader, using the USB cable enclosed. The
computer does not need to be switched off.

The drivers for the USB hub and the card reader are integrated in the operating system
(minimum requirement Windows ME or higher), therefore, there is no driver-data carrier.

When first connected to the computer, Windows recognises the card reader as well as the USB
hub and completes the driver installation.

Additional drive letters, for the memory card slots on the card reader, are assigned automatically
by Windows.

Do not use the multi-card reader without the enclosed wall plug transformer.

Reading/Writing to Memory Cards

A memory card inserted into the card reader will be integrated in the same way as a conventional
removable media drive. When a memory card is recognised, the access LED on the card reader
shines with a steady light.

With Windows file manager you can now read the data on the memory card (or store data on the
memory card), in the same way as you use the hard disk or a USB stick. The access LED on the
card reader flashes during write/read access.

Removing the Memory Card

When reading/writing to memory cards, wait until the operations are finished (the access LED
on the card reader no longer blinks).

Then remove the memory card(s) carefully from the memory card slot.

If the memory card is removed during a read/write access, the data on the memory
card can be damaged. It is possible that the memory card will have to be formatted
again afterwards.

The same applies, if the USB connection is disconnected or the wall plug trans-
former or the power supply for the multi-card reader is turned off.

Connection/Disconnection of USB Devices

• USB devices can be plugged in and unplugged while the PC is in use. This means that you do

not have to switch off your computer, when you want to plug in or unplug devices (with other
interfaces this can cause damage, e.g. if you connect or disconnect a PS/2 mouse during
operation).

If data transfers are in progress on the USB port, e.g. if an external disk is inputting data to the
computer, and you unplug the USB plug, Windows might crash and other data may also be
damaged!

For some USB2.0 devices (e.g. USB hard drives) Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7
displays an icon with an arrow in the menu bar. You can “separate” the USB device from the
computer using this function, and thus instruct the computer to close open files. Afterwards,
the USB device can be unplugged safely.

• When a USB device is connected for the first time, Windows may start the hardware

recognition, and a driver may have to be installed depending on the USB device.

You should use the same USB port for connecting USB devices, otherwise the hardware
recognition might be performed again and as a result the driver installation will be repeated.

• The LED located next to the appropriate USB port lights up, when a USB device is connected

and recognised.
