Head Disk Assembly
The Head-Disk Assembly (HDA) consists of a die-cast aluminum base on which
is mounted a die-cast aluminum cover. Both the base and the cover are made
from a corrosion resistant aluminum alloy. A gasket seals the joint between the
base and cover to retard the entry of moisture and environmental contaminants.
The head-disk assembly, contains an integral 0.3 micron filter, which maintains
a clean environment. Critical drive components are contained within this
contaminant-free environment. Figure 1-2 shows the HDA and the major sub-
assemblies contained within it:
