Installation Considerations and Safety 
Guidelines

WARNING:  

The SAN Integrated Switch weighs approximately 200 pounds. Use proper 

handling and lifting equipment to reduce the possibility of injury or product damage.

This chapter provides instructions for installing the SAN Integrated Switch. A rack 
mounting kit is included with your SAN Integrated Switch. Plan before you begin to rack 
mount the SAN Integrated Switch, and observe the following guidelines:

■

When you install the SAN Integrated Switch in a closed or multirack assembly, be sure 
the air temperature measured at the front panel does not exceed 40° C (104° F) during 
operation.

■

The SAN Integrated Switch can be installed facing either direction in a rack, which 
allows you to choose the orientation of the air inlet and service sides. However, the 
SAN Integrated Switch must be installed so that cooling air for all components in the 
rack is flows in the same direction. Installing the SAN Integrated Switch other than the 
way described here is considered an unsupported configuration.
