m
aintenance
To insure a properly operating pump: Clean pump, impeller and intake strainer every 3 weeks.
Failure to do so will cause premature failure of the pump.
1. Disconnect the pump from the power supply prior to removing the pump from the water.
2. Remove the prefilter. Rinse out prefilter sponge of debris.
3. With a Philips screw driver loosen the four screws on the volute. Now, remove the volute.
4. Once the volute is removed, clean well. Now verify the impeller is free of all dirt and
debris.
5. Remove the impeller and clean well.
6. Once the impeller is removed, slide both the impeller and shaft out of the main body of the
pump and clean well. Do not use any soap detergents during cleaning.
7. After the impeller and shaft are cleaned, use a small brush to clean inside of the motor
housing.
8. Reassemble above parts and your ViaAqua® pump is again ready to use. Confirm that all
the washer and bushing a reassembled properly. Failure to do so will cause permanent
damage to the pump.
9. Replace the impeller if there are any signs of damage or excess wear.
NOTE:
If the water flow is to decrease, it’s a clear sign that debris is inside the
impeller or the prefilter is clogged. It is the aquarist’s sole responsibility to insure the
pump is maintained.Failure to do so will cause permanent damage to the pump.
