Variable speed control
The speed of the drill depends on how far in the power trigger is pulled.
Note:
Always start drilling at low speed whenever drilling without a pilot hole or centre-
punch mark. As a rule, use higher speeds with thin drill bits and lower speeds with
thicker bits. Cleaning and polishing usually require high speeds.
Gear selection
1. Stop the drill completely.
2. Press in the little lock button on the knob and turn it to the desired setting. Select
position
1
for the lower speed range (0–1500 rpm) or position
2
for the higher
speed range (0–3000 rpm).
Note:
Always use the lowest gear when the machine is under the greatest load, it
provides higher torque and better cooling.
Warning:
Do not move the gear selector unless the chuck is completely stationary.
Make sure that the gear selector knob is fully turned to the correct gear and locked by
the lock button.
Selecting hammer drill/normal drill mode
1. Stop the drill completely.
2. Press in the little lock button on the knob and turn it to the desired drill mode
setting. Select hammer drilling for hard materials (concrete, stone, etc.) and normal
drilling for steel, aluminium and wood, etc.
Warning:
Do not move the gear selector unless the chuck is completely stationary.
Make sure that the gear selector knob is fully turned to the correct gear and locked by
the lock button.
Useful tips
• After having worked the drill hard, let the motor run for a few minutes without any
load, to cool it down.
• Use the auxiliary handle to help maintain full control when drilling.
• Only use drill bits which are in good condition.
• Use Titanium coated drill bits for hard metals and Tungsten carbide tipped drill bits
for concrete/tiles. If in doubt read the packet.
• Make sure that the workpiece is securely fastened. Securing the workpiece in
a vice or with clamps will leave you both hands free to hold the drill with.
• If you are drilling into thin materials it is important that you place a small piece of
waste material behind the hole to be drilled, otherwise there is a risk of burring on
the back.
