Configuring Voice-over-IP
You can use a period (.) as a wildcard character representing a single digit in a telephone number.
You can use the
show num-exp
command to verify the number expansion information.
East#
show num-exp
[dialed-number]
After you have configured dial peers and assigned destination patterns to them, you can use the
show
dialplan number
command to see how a telephone number maps to a dial peer.
East#
show dialplan number
[dialed-number]
Note
You must still configure each telephone number in full on a local dial peer so that the router can find the
voice port it belongs to.
Configuring FXS Interfaces
This section explains how to configure ports on FXS VICs that connect directly to a standard telephone,
fax machine, or similar device.
Figure 11
shows a basic voice network. A small business uses a Cisco 1751 router (named
West
) to
provide telephone and fax connections among employees in its office. Two of these telephones are
connected to an FXS VIC port in the
West
router.
