Point-To-Point Networks
Introduction
For point-to-point operations, communication is bi-directional and the
underlying packetization process completely transparent. Multipoint
applications, however, require some accommodation for packetization.
Any combination of the HN-210, HN-210X, HN-510, HN-1010, HN-1510, or the
HN-3010 wireless modems can communicate with each other in a point-to-point
configuration. The HN-510, HN-210X, HN-1010 and HN-1510 each require
external antennas. If you use directional gain antennas, take special care to
properly orient and aim the antennas in order to maximize range.
The HN-210 and HN-3010, which have an integrated wireless modems and
antennas, are especially straightforward in outdoor applications that can require
a line of sight range of up to 3 miles. The built-in antennas of the HN-210 and
HN-3010 eliminate the need to separately mount the antennas. The antennas are
somewhat directional, but require only approximate aiming.
Throughput
The maximum possible data rate for point-to-point transmissions is up to 230
Kbps. A typical point-to-point link should be capable of 150 Kbps full duplex, or
230 Kbps half duplex.
