For a better reliability of the tightening process, CP recommends to control the tool periodically. In that
purpose and to make sure that the working conditions are correct (process, air pressure, …), CP advises to
verify, by means of a torque or click wrench, the tightening torque reached on 1 nut per wheel.
Phases
Tasks to perform
Control
•
Set the torque wrench 50 Nm below the targeted torque.
•
Engage the torque wrench on a nut, identify the position of the socket and rotate in
the tightening direction.
•
Check that the torque wrench clicks before any movement of the socket.
•
Set the torque wrench 50 Nm above the targeted torque.
•
Rotate in the tightening direction.
•
Check that the socket rotates slightly before the torque wrench clicks.
Loosening
operation
•
Adjust the torque selector on max torque selection.
•
Maintain the tool over the nuts by slightly pushing it towards the nuts.
•
Adjust the rotation direction selector as needed (verify with the color of the arrow).
•
Pull the trigger.
•
Check that the socket starts turning very slowly then accelerates when the bolt is
loosened.
•
Release the trigger when the nut is enough loosened to be operated by hand or
when it is completely disengaged of the thread.
•
Remove the nut runner and restart this phase on next nut.
End
•
Disconnect the hose from air supply.
•
Pull the trigger until the socket stop turning.
•
Indicate any abnormality noticed during the use to the foreman.
Information about the working station
•
Only trained staff is authorized to use the nut runner.
•
A copy of the instruction manual should available in the storage box of the nut runner. The original
should be available at the foreman’s office.
•
Working with the nut runner requires wearing the following individual equipments of protection: adjusted
working clothes (not loose), safety glasses, gloves, safety footwear
•
Any abnormality must be indicated to the foreman.
•
Setting the preset position of the torque selector are forbidden to unauthorized staff: the list of the
authorized persons should be available by the foreman
•
This equipment should be at least annually controlled by accredited people. The report should be
available by the foreman.
Hazardous risks
•
Hand squeeze between the reaction bar and the inside of the wheel rim.
•
Projection of oil, dust… due to the air exhausting from the nut runner.
•
Dropping the nut runner (especially when positioning and removing the tool).
Individual and collective protection
•
Adjusted working clothes (not loose),
•
Safety glasses
•
Gloves
•
Safety footwear
Specific instructions to avoid accident
When starting the nut runner
•
Never place hands on the reaction bar and/or the spring loaded cup
•
Never place hands inside the wheel rim
•
