Exit/Gap Photosensor Alignment
The exit/gap photosensor (Figure 7-54)
watches as flatwork moves down the discharge
conveyor. As soon as the sensor sees a piece, the
discharge conveyor slows down up. A short time
later, an air blast from the tail air bar pushes the
middle of the piece down so that it clears the
exit/gap sensor more quickly.
Occasionally, the sensor may “see” a ribbon,
causing a mis-timed change of conveyor speed
and air blast.
Required Tools
7/16” wrench
Perform only when the unit is OFF
with power disconnected.
Turn power OFF at the main disconnect
switch.
Locate the exit/gap photosensor at the rear
of the unit (Figure 7-56).
Loosen the bolts which secure the brack-
et.
Move the bracket slight left or right as
needed so that the sensor’s “eye” is look-
ing directly down between ribbons.
Secure the bracket in position.
Start the unit and test the adjustment by
processing several pieces of flatwork.

Photosensor Replacement
If a photosensor fails or is erratic, it should
be replaced immediately. All photosensors are
connected using a quick-release connector.
Replacing a photosensor is 2-step process:
First, physically install the new sensor and then,
make sure it is set to Dark Operate or Light
Operate as appropriate to its location and function
in the machine.
Installing the Photosensor
Required Tools
small screwdriver
Perform only when the unit is OFF
with power disconnected.
Make sure you have the correct type for
the photosensor to be replaced. For more
information on sensor location and type,
refer to the
OPERATING PRINCIPLES
chapter,
Electrical System
section,
Con-
trol System
subsection.
Turn power OFF at the main disconnect
switch.
Locate the photosensor to be replaced.
Unscrew the photosensor from the
mounting bracket. Be careful to save the
screws.
Unscrew the photosensor from its connec-
tor plug (Figure 7-55) and discard.
Screw the new sensor into its connector
plug. Make sure it is secure.
Using the screws removed in Step 4, se-
cure the new photosensor to its mounting
bracket.
NOTE:
If replacing a wall
photosensor, perform its sensitivity
adjustment procedure before
proceeding.
