How to check whether the PC/SC environment
is installed
1 Select the
Control Panel
menu command in the
Settings
menu from the taskbar in the Win-
dows
Start menu
.
The
Control Panel
window is displayed.
2 Select the
Software
icon in the list.
The
Software properties
window is displayed.
3 Select the
Add/Remove
tab.
4 Check whether the list contains the
Microsoft
Smart Card Base Components
program.
5 Check whether the file
smclib.vxd
exists in the
version 4.00.951 or above in the general sys-
tem files under
Windows\System
.
6 Check whether the file
smclib.sys
exists in ver-
sion 5.00 in the general system files under
Win-
dows\System32\Drivers
.

How to install the PC/SC environment
Caution
Installation of the PC/SC environment
under
Windows 2000
and
Windows XP
.
Installation of the PC/SC environment can lead to
malfunctions in your system.
• Do not install the PC/SC environment at
Win-
dows 2000
and
Windows XP
.
• Double-click on the supplied CD-ROM in the
folder of your operating system in the
Only...
folder on the file
scbase.exe
and follow the
instructions in the installation program.
How to connect the keyboard to your PC
Precondition
The PC/SC environment is already installed at
Microsoft Windows 98
or
Microsoft Windows
Me
.
1 Connect the USB plug of the Cherry keyboard
with the USB port of your PC.
The operating system recognizes the Cherry
keyboard. The message
New hardware compo-
nents found
is displayed on the screen.
The installation assistant is displayed.
2 Click on the
Continue
button.
The
Search for driver files
dialog box is dis-
played and informs you which file is required.
3 Select the file with the extension
*.inf
in the
folder of your operating system on the supplied
CD-ROM.
4 Follow the driver installation instructions on the
screen.
5 If you have installed the software under
Microsoft Windows 98
or
Microsoft Windows
Me
, restart the PC.
5 Secure PIN Entry function
If your application supports the direct transfer of
the PIN to the chip card, the
SmartBoard 6733
provides you with particular security when you
enter your PIN by means of the
Secure PIN Entry
mode: When you enter your PIN on the number
block of the keyboard, the PIN is not transferred to
the operating system, but directly to the chip card.
The PIN LED indicates whether the keyboard is in
this protected mode:
• LED
lights green
: Card is activated
• LED
flashes red
: Keyboard is in the
Secure
PIN Entry
mode.
Confirm the PIN by using one of the two "Enter"
keys.
Abort the process by using the "Esc" key or the "+"
key on the number block.
Correct your entry with the "Backspace" key or the
"-" key on the number block.
