It has to be secured that the main catch of dead latch locks will not be
blocked in its movement, because a proper lock function is only guara-
teed if the latch is completely extended.
For holding the door in its closed position, no other devices should be
installed except those defined in this European standard. This does not
preclude the installation of door closers.
If a door closer is installed to move the door back into its closed position,
care should be taken that this does not impede the operation of the
door by children or elderly and frail persons.
All provided locking counterparts and/or covers should be installed to
ensure conformity with this European standard.
On the interior side of the door, immediately above the operating ele-
ment or on the operating element itself if the operating element has an
even surface large enough for the lettering, a sign with the text „Use
handle to open“ or a corresponding pictogram should be attached.
Note:
Emergency exit devices manufactured in accordance with this European
standard provide a high level of personal security and an adequate pro-
tection against burglary if they are fastened to doors and frames that
are in a good condition.
Maintenance instructions
The following routine maintenance checks should be performed every
month or more frequently:
Inspect and operate the emergency exit device to satisfy yourself that
all components of the device are in good working order.
Satisfy yourself that latch bolt, dead bolt and locking counterparts are
not jammed or clogged.
Verify that no additional locking devices were subsequently added to
the door.
Regularly verify that all components of the system still are in conformity
with the list of the permitted components originally supplied with the
system.
Satisfy yourself that the door fitting is screwed on tight to the door.
