extension cord only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the extension cord, reverse the plug.
If the plug still does not fit, obtain a correct polarized extension cord. A polarized extension cord
will require the use of a polarized wall outlet. The plug will fit into the polarized wall outlet only
one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the wall outlet, reverse the plug. If the plug still does
not fit, contact a qualified electrician to install the proper wall outlet. Do not change the
equipment plug, extension cord receptacle, or extension cord plug in any way.

b) LAWN MOWER-SPECIFIC SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

1)

Avoid dangerous environments

– Don’t use lawn mowers in damp or wet locations.

2)

Don’t use in rain.

3)

Keep children away

 – All visitors should be kept a safe distance from work area.

4)

Dress properly

– Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. They can get caught in moving

parts. Use of rubber gloves and footwear is recommended when working outdoors.

5)

Use safety glasses

– In addition, always use a face or dust mask if operation is dusty.

6)

Use right appliance

 – Do not use lawn mower for any job except that for which it is intended.

7)

Ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) protection should be provided on the circuit(s)

or outlet(s) to be used for the lawn mower.

Receptacles are available having built-in GFCI

protection and may be used for this measure of safety.

WARNING

To prevent electric shock use only with an extension cord suitable for outdoor use and
marked as such: SW, SOW, STW, STOW, SJW, SJOW, SJTW, or SJTOW.

8)    Extension cord – Make sure your extension cord set is in good condition. When using an

extension cord, be sure to use one heavy enough to carry the current your product will draw.
An undersized cord will cause a drop in line voltage resulting in loss of power and
overheating. (NOTE: Table 1 shows the correct size to use depending on cord length and
nameplate ampere rating. If in doubt, use the next heavier gauge. The smaller the gauge
number the heavier the cord.)

Table 1 Minimum gauge for extension cords

To reduce the likelihood of disconnection of the lawn mower cord from the extension cord during
operating, use cord holder described in this manual.

9)

Handle cord carefully

 – Never pull lawn mower by cord or yank on the cord to disconnect it

from the receptacle. Keep cord from heat, oil, and sharp edges.

10)

Don’t force lawn mower

 – It will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.

11)

Don’t overreach

 – Keep proper footing and balance at all times.

12)

Stay alert

 – Watch what you are doing. Use common sense. Do not operate lawn mower when

you are tired.

13)

Disconnect lawn mower

 – Disconnect the lawn mower from the power supply when not in use,

before servicing and when changing accessories such as blades, and the like.

14)

Store idle lawn mower indoors

– When not in use, lawn mower should be stored in an indoor,

dry and locked-up place – out of reach of children.

15)

Maintain lawn mower with care

 – Keep cutting edges sharp and clean for best and safest

performance. Follow instructions for lubricating and changing accessories. Inspect lawn
mower cord periodically and if damaged, have it repaired by an authorized service facility.
Inspect extension cords periodically and replace if damaged. Keep handles dry, clean, and
free from oil and grease.

16)

Keep guards in place and in working order.

17)

Keep blades sharp.

18)

Keep hands and feet away from cutting area.

19)

Objects struck by the lawn mower blade can cause severe injuries to persons.

 The lawn

should always be carefully examined and cleared of all objects prior to each mowing.

20)

If lawn mower strikes a foreign object, follow these steps:

i) Stop lawn mower. Release the switch.
ii) Unplug power cord.
iii) Inspect for damage.
iv) Repair any damage before restarting and operating the lawn mower.

21)

 Use identical replacement blades only.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR WALK-BEHIND MOWERS

I. GENERAL OPERATION

1.     Read, understand, and follow all instructions on the machine and in the instructions before

starting the lawn mower.

2.     Do not put hands or feet near or under the machine. Keep clear of the discharge opening at

all times.

3.     Only allow responsible adults who are familiar with these instructions to operate this

machine.

4.     Clear the area of objects, such as rocks, wire, toys, etc., which could be thrown by the

blade. Stay behind the handle when the engine (motor) is running.

5.     Be sure the area is clear of bystanders before operating. Stop machine if anyone enters the

area.

6.     Do not operate machine barefooted or while wearing sandals. Always wear substantial

footwear.

7.     Do not pull machine backwards unless absolutely necessary. Always look down and behind

before and while moving backwards.

8.     Never direct discharged material toward anyone. Avoid discharging material against a wall or

obstruction. Material may ricochet back toward the operator. Stop the blade when crossing
gravel surfaces.

9.     Do not operate machine without the entire grass catcher, discharge guard, rear guard, or

other safety protective devices in place and working.

10.   Never leave a running machine unattended.
11.    Stop the engine (motor) and wait until the blade comes to a complete stop before cleaning

the machine, removing grass catcher, or unclogging the discharge guard.

12.   Operate machine only in daylight or good artificial light.
13.   Do not operate machine while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
14.   Never operate mower in wet grass. Always be sure of your footing; walk, never run.
15.   If the machine should start to vibrate abnormally, stop the engine (motor) and check for the

cause immediately. Vibration is generally a warning of trouble.

16.   Always wear eye protection when operating the machine.
17.    See manufacturer’s instructions for proper operation and installation of accessories. Only

use accessories approved by the manufacturer.

II. SLOPE OPERATION

Slopes are a major factor related to slip and fall accidents, which can result in severe injury.
Operation on all slopes requires extra caution.

If you feel uneasy on a slope, do not mow it.
1.

Mow across the face of slopes; never up and down.

 Exercise extreme caution when changing

direction on slopes.

2.

Watch for holes, ruts, bumps, rocks, or other hidden objects.

 Uneven terrain could cause a

slip and fall accident. Tall grass can hide obstacles.

3.

Do not mow on wet grass or excessively steep slopes.

Poor footing could cause a slip and fall

accident.

4.

Do not mow near drop-offs, ditches, or embankments.

You could lose your footing or

balance.

III. CHILDREN

Tragic accidents can occur if the operator is not alert to the presence of children.
Children are often attracted to the machine and the mowing activity. Never assume that
children will remain where you last saw them.
1.      Keep children away from the work area and monitored by a responsible adult other than the

machine operator.

2.     Stay alert and stop the mower if a child enters the work area.
3.     Never let a child operate the mower.
4.     Be extremely cautious when going around blind spots, trees, shrubs or any other structure

that could prevent you from seeing a child present.

IV. SERVICE
GENERAL SERVICE

1.

Keep all nuts and bolts tight to be sure the equipment is in safe working condition.

2.

Never tamper with safety devices.

Check their proper operation regularly.

3.

Keep machine free of grass, leaves, or other debris build-up.

4.

If you strike a foreign object, stop and inspect the machine.

 Repair if necessary, before

starting.

5.

Never make any adjustments or repairs with the engine (motor) running.

6.

Always unplug electric mowers before adjusting, cleaning, or repairing.

7.

Check grass catcher components and the discharge guard frequently and replace with

manufacturer’s recommended parts, when necessary.

8.

Mower blades are sharp.

Wrap the blade or wear gloves, and use extra caution when servicing

them.

9.

Maintain or replace safety and instruction labels, as necessary.

When working with the lawn mowe

r

When working with or on the machine you must wear protective clothing, including the
following items:
- Safety shoes
- Pants
- Close-fitting garments
- Protective goggles, etc.

Operate the lawn mower only when it is in good technical condition as stipulated and delivered by
the manufacturer.

Before cleaning or performing maintenance work on the lawn mower:

Avoid injuries by observing the following:
- Switch motor OFF.
- Wait until all moving parts have come to a complete standstill.
- Remove the plug from the power source.

After working with the appliance

Always unplug the power cord if leaving the lawn mower unattended.

DANGER

Never use a lawnmower if it has damaged safety devices or if there are no safety devices
fitted.

Accident Prevention

No person, especially children, or animals should be allowed to stand close to the mower while it
is in use. Risk of injury due to ejected stones or other objects.

Tripping Hazard

Operate the lawn mower at walking speed only.
1)     Be particularly careful when mowing in reverse and pulling the machine towards you.
2)    When mowing on steep slopes, there is a risk of the mower tipping over and you could be

injured as a result. Mow crossways to the slope, never upwards and downwards. Do not mow
on inclines greater than 20%.

3)    Be particularly careful when changing the mowing direction and always maintain a stable

position.

4)    Mowing along perimeters of cliffs or steep inclines involves a risk of injury. Keep a safe

distance from perimeters of dangerous terrain when mowing.

5)    If the ground is wet the mower could slip due to reduced traction and overturn. Mow only

when the grass is dry.

6)    Work only by daylight or in good artificial lighting.

Injury Prevention

1)     Always maintain a safe distance from the rotating blade by holding and standing behind the

steering handle.

2)    Never place your hands, feet, or other parts of the body near rotating parts.
3)    Stop the motor when the lawnmower has to be tilted and when travelling over surfaces other

than grass for transporting.

4)    Never lift or carry the machine when the motor is running. Remove the plug from the outlet

before handling mower.

5)    Switch off the motor and pull out the plug when releasing jambs, removing blockages in the

ejection channel or before checking, cleaning, transporting, adjusting or working on the lawn
mower.

6)     If you remove the grass catcher, you or other persons might get injured due to ejected,

mowed materials or foreign objects.

7)     Never empty the grass bag while the motor is running. To do this, switch off the lawn mower.
8)    Check the surface which the lawn mower is to be used on and remove all objects that the

machine can eject out of the discharge chute.

9)    If a foreign object (e.g., stone) is hit by the cutting blade or the lawn mower starts vibrating

abnormally, stop the motor immediately and remove the plug from the outlet. Check the lawn
mower for damage, and have any damage repaired at an authorized repair facility.

10)   When the lawnmower blades are rotating, never stand in front of the grass disharge chute.

Tripping hazard

When changing directions, be careful not to trip over the mains cable and injure yourself. Position
the extension cord behind you so that it stays out of the path which you are walking along while
mowing, and is kept away from the cutting blade.

1)     Stones, branches or other objects lying around can cause damage to the lawn mower and its

operation. Remove all objects from the machine’s path before every use.

2)    Do not operate the machine if it is not in perfect working order. Conduct a thorough visual

check before using it. In particular, check that protective equipment, electrical controls,
current-carrying cables and threaded connections are not damaged and are secure.

3)    Replace damaged parts before operating the unit.

CAUTION

Potential damage to the machine.

Operating times

Comply with municipal regulations concerning the times when the mower may be used (if
required, contact your local authority).

Directions
