Hints for Great Tasting Coffee
1. A clean coffee maker is essential for making great tasting coffee. Regularly
clean the coffee maker as specified in the "Cleaning & Maintenance" section.
2. Store unused ground coffee in a cool, dry place. After opening a package of
ground coffee, reseal it tightly or place into an airtight container. DO NOT
store ground coffee in the refrigerator or freezer.
3. For an optimum coffee taste, buy whole coffee beans and grind just before
brewing. Keep unused whole beans in an airtight container in a cool dry place.
4. Always use fresh, cold water in your Capresso Perk. When possible use
filtered water for purest flavor.
5. DO NOT reuse ground coffee since this will greatly reduce the coffee’s flavor.
Reheating coffee is not recommended as coffee is at its peak flavor
immediately after brewing.
Troubleshooting
Coffee does not brew.
• Check that the tube is correctly placed inside the heating well so hot water
can travel to the coffee basket (Fig. 5).
• Check that the washer on the end of the tube is free of any coffee particles.
• Check that the tube is not clogged by cleaning with a pipe cleaner.
• Check that the cord is plugged into both the percolator and the electrical
outlet.
• Ensure the coffee basket holes are not clogged by cleaning with a toothpick.
• Ensure coffee basket is not overfilled as excess grounds won’t allow water to
pass through properly.
Coffee grounds are getting into the cup.
• Use a coarser ground coffee.
• Wet the interior of the coffee basket prior to adding the ground coffee.
• Use a paper filter designed specifically for percolators.
• Ensure coffee basket is not overfilled as this could cause coffee grounds to
overflow. See “Coffee Making Chart” on page 7.
Coffee is weak.
• Fill the coffee basket to the maximum marking (12) and add less water
(6-8 cups) to the percolator body.
• Only use cold water in the percolator. Warm water will not allow the percolator
to work properly.
• Check that the coffee basket holes are not clogged.
