4.2
Installing the CRBRIM-W/T
This section contains procedures on how to install a CRBRIM-W/T.
You can install a CRBRIM-W/T in any Cabletron Token Ring device that supports
a BRIM and provides an internal Token Ring RJ45 connection.
Refer to specific MIM or hub documentation for exact BRIM and Token Ring
RJ45 connector locations.
4.2.1 Installing a CRBRIM-W/T into a MIM
To install a CRBRIM-W/T into a Token Ring Media Interface Module (MIM) that
supports BRIM technology:
1.
Power-down your MMAC hub and remove all power cords.
2.
Disconnect all cables from the MIM into which the CRBRIM-W/T is to be
installed. Note each cable-to-port connection.
3.
Attach the disposable grounding strap to your wrist and to a proper ground
(refer to the instructions outlined on the grounding strap package).
Cabletron supplies a user installable 4 megabyte DRAM SIMM
with CRBRIM-W/T models configured for DESKTOP or
ENTERPRISE routing software. Install the DRAM SIMM before
installing the CRBRIM-W/T into your MMAC hub. See Chapter 6,
section 6.1.4 for DRAM installation instructions.
NOTE
The CRBRIM-W/T and the host MIM are sensitive to static
discharges. Ensure that you use a grounding strap and observe all
static precautions during this procedure. Failure to do so could
result in damage to the CRBRIM-W/T or the host MIM.

CAUTION
Cabletron recommends that you power down your hub even
though Cabletron MIMs have “hot swap” capabilities.
