Battery Systems
Charging
The outboard engine alternator charges the two bat-
teries when the engine is running above idle speed.
All outboard engines charge their starting batteries
through the starting circuit. Some outboard engines
charge the house battery through an integral auxiliary
charging circuit and some require an external battery
charge isolator. The external charge isolator diverts
some of the engine charging output to the house bat-
tery.
The engine and house batteries are charged when the
outboard engine is running above idle speed, regard-
less of battery OFF-ON switch position.
The charge isolator also prevents a higher-charged
battery
1
from discharging into a lower-charged bat-
tery
2
by keeping the batteries electrically isolated.
The battery charge isolator output circuits are pro-
tected by two 70-amp push-button circuit breakers
located inside the control console.
Your boat is normally equipped with one 110 VAC bat-
tery charger that charges both batteries when the boat
is connected to shore power. Both batteries are
charged when the 110 VAC battery charger is active,
regardless of battery OFF-ON switch positions.
Each 110 VAC battery charger output circuit is pro-
tected by a 40-amp push-button circuit breaker located
inside the control console.
Refer to the battery charger operation manual in your
owner’s bag for detailed information about its pro-
gramming and operation.
!
CAUTION
The 110 VAC battery charger has been pro-
grammed to support the charging requirements
of your batteries. Changing the battery type
without reprogramming the battery charger can
damage the batteries.
